Born and raised in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, Tyler was exposed to music at a young age. Following a brief stint playing the pots and pans, he was given his first pair of drumsticks. Tyler's cousins, Todd and Corey both played the drums and inspired Tyler to pick up the instrument. It was his cousins' generosity that resulted in receiving his first drum set as well as his first real exposure to jazz. Both the school band and garage bands served as his training ground until high school. Throughout high school Tyler played in as many ensembles as possible while simultaneously studying classical percussion, privately, at a local university. Recognizing his overwhelming passion for jazz music he decided it was time to reach out to one of the areas finest players/educators to take his musicianship to the next level. Marko Marcinko was that teacher. Marko's experience playing with Maynard Furguesen, Dave Liebman, etc. as well as his multi-instrumental expertise, inspired Tyler to pursue music as a career. Throughout the years, Marko has taken Tyler under his wing and provided him with countless musical and educational opportunities.
Tyler then went on to study with Tim Horner and Mark Sherman at New Jersey City University. While living in New Jersey, before later transferring and graduating from Penn State University, he began performing with his own groups in numerous NYC venues. He has also benefited from the instruction and guidance of David Liebman, Bill Goodwin, and Adam Nussbaum. Tyler has had the opportunity to perform with many great artist including: David Liebman, Bob Dorough, Joe Magnarelli, Joe Locke, Clarence Spady, Jon Ballantyne, Adam Niewood, Tony Marino, Jim Ridl, Nate Birkey, Bill Washer, Ron Oswanski, Porter & Sayles etc. In 2013/14 Tyler had the opportunity to play for over a month with the Jesse Lynch Trio on their nation-wide Jazz 101, educational tour. They visited countless schools and venues across the country to present educational outreach programs and concerts.
Tyler is the house drummer at the Historic, Deer Head Inn Jazz jam sessions and can be heard every Friday and Saturday night at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, at the Mohegan Sun Casino. He leads a trio that was awarded “ Jazz Act of The Year 2018” - Steamtown Music Awards. Tyler is currently “Director of Percussion Instruction” at Keystone College. He also appears on "Skies Above" off of Aaron Fink's (formerly of Breaking Benjamin) solo release, "Galaxies", on the Woodhenge Records label.
